Outdoor friends
The Outdoor Friends, or outdoor group, helps residents of assisted living facilities get out and about. Volunteers push wheelchairs, provide other assistance—such as helping those who use a rollator—or simply walk alongside them, chatting as they go. Sometimes, if the weather or conditions are bad, they can stay indoors to socialize.
This is a good form of volunteer work, for example, if you are unable to commit to regular, one-on-one friendship activities. The group leader announces the locations and times at the beginning of each month to all group members. You can choose the ones that suit you and sign up for them.
How to join?
The best way to get involved in our activities is by taking the basic friendship program course. These are held both online and in-person in the spring and fall. You can find more information about the training sessions under “Oma Punainen” events. At least some knowledge of Finnish language would be helpful in joining the group.
