Immigrant Activities

Our goal in our work with immigrants is to support refugees arriving in Pori in various ways. When a new refugee arrives in Pori, the environment, customs, and even some everyday matters are different from what they are used to. We help them integrate by, for example, acting as safe companions. We also strive to promote tolerance in our community and create positive encounters. Through our work with immigrants, we encounter very different cultures, constantly learn new things, and make lifelong friends.

Our main activities include

  • Support groups for quota refugee families
  • The Living Room: Come join us to socialize, play games, or do crafts
  • A language club to support learning Finnish
  • Red Cross International, a multicultural group where we learn about both the Finnish Red Cross’s activities and the Finnish language and culture!
  • Various events and advocacy to promote tolerance
  • In addition, refugee work is carried out as part of our regular friendship activities.

How to become a volunteer?

Feel free to contact us at spr.pori@gmail.com (this link sends an email) and let us know you’re interested in joining the activities that appeal to you. You can also use the same email address to ask for more information about what we do. It would be great if you could also create a profile on Oma Punainen, which you can find at https://oma.punainenristi.fi/. We train our volunteers; for immigration work, a good package is the basic friendship  course plus the integration support course.
